Happy Elephant day everyone . . .

Happy elephant day everyone . . .

Just a short note today, but a powerful one . . . please remember it always . . .

On this special day, please, listen to the plights of all captive elephants, and remember the pain all ridden elephants have to endure before you even contemplate taking an elephant ride on a holiday, spare two minutes to see the reality of some elephants lives by looking at some of these links. .http://helpyourselfandotherscampaign2013.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/links-to-most-of-elephant-facebook-pages.html and remember at least 22,000 elephants are being killed on an annual basis for their tusks . . . would you like to be poached and killed but left to suffer in pain having had all your teeth chainsawed or hack-sawed off . . . . . on behalf of many thank you for giving all elephants a thought on elephant day

Links to most of the Elephant facebook pages

In view of there being so many elephant facebook pages, and guaranteed when you are trying to remember which one you were looking for with a specific post, guaranteed you can probably not find it,  so, with this in mind we have decided to create a post dedicated to all the elephant facebook pages, at least the ones that we know of.

If we come across any more we will add them, or if you know of any that are not here, perhaps you would like to add them.

So to conclude this post :

If you are passionate about 1. The health, general well being and the future of all Elephants, 2. The importance of all Elephants being released from Captivity or 3. Against the cruel killings of elephants for their tusks 4.Support the release of elephants who have been cruelly abused like Sunder and would like to keep up to date by joining the Abused elephant Sunder's Fan Club for example or 6 do not believe that young elephants who are found by their Dead Mothers sides and then hijacked, kept in barns for months on end while their spirits are broken till they are trained often in an unnatural and cruel way to become street beggars or 7 Do not believe that Elephants should be trained, again in a cruel way, to be used for rides or circus's, please could you help to support our elephants by linking to some or all of the below mentioned facebook pages.

On behalf of all elephants who need our support and to be given the chance of a lifetime that Nature created for them and not the life that 'Greed' has created for them, thank you all for looking at this post.

The only thing we would ask is that you are considerate towards each Countries beliefs /  Religions and that any comments you make will not, potentially, make the life of an elephant worse than it is already. We all need to be thoughtful towards the best way forward and to consider ways of making those abusers more passionate about the animals under their hands. There is always a way, just sometimes we need to look at things from a different angle.

These have NOT been put in any order so please do not take offence if you discover your Group part way down.  . . thank you.

Scotland for Elephants

A group of people in Scotland dedicated to raising awareness about the ivory trade and the fate of elephants across Africa.

DescriptionIt is said that elephants could be extinct by 2025, but the figures change and it could be even sooner than that. With long pregnancies and mating starting in their early twenties, the species don't stand a chance if the killing continues at this rate. While the governments acknowledge the crisis, the elephants still need 'ordinary' people who are determined to raise awareness about the ivory trade and what it does to elephants and humans likewise. This is where we step in.

The Sparkling Elephant

Description
On a flight from TZ to South Africa's famous INDABA trade show Marlies Gabriel shared an aisle and a conversation with a high-volume safari-booking agent from the U.S. When they got to talking about elephants, one of Marlies’ passions, she asked his estimation of what will happen to tourism when the elephants disappear. He was emphatic in his response, “Tourism will cease to exist as we know it.”

Later, when disembarking in SA, Marlies caught sight of the Amarula elephant and an idea was hatched; The Sparkling Elephant Project was born.
Upon returning home, Marlies contacted a local artist and friend, Remy Chama. He and his assistant Ema built a life-sized elephant from welded re-bars and chicken wire and named it Mwalimu. The name sprung from the idea that the elephant should spread the word and teach people about the ills of poaching.

When finished, Mwalimu was carted from Momella to the Karibu Fair in Kisongo where he was an instant hit. Hundreds of people stopped by to see what Mwalimu was all about and to help cover him in shanga (glass beads) threaded on wire. Altogether, people strung 2,000 beads on the elephant.

Welcome to the group Elephant Warrior. Elephants need our support. They are slaughtered for their ivory. They are tormented in zoos , circuses and as working elephants.
Elephants are very social animals and need to be with others. They are intelligent and very sensitive. In circus and zoos elephants suffer terrible distress. There is no place for social interactions. Many are chained for the majority of their life. A lifetime in chains, beaten and suffering from diseases.

"Captive elephants who have lived in zoos or circuses for years, sometimes their entire lives, will not and cannot be returned to the wild. That is why we advocate for zoos, most particularly the Oregon Zoo, to send Packy to sanctuary as a first step to reitiring all of the elephants, and then closing the elephant exhibit, as more than 22 zoos around the country and the world have already done."

The Big Rumble

Zoos are once again raiding the wild for elephants to put on display. Elephants are not thriving in U.S. zoos, where they are dying faster than they can be bred. The practice of capturing and importing wild-caught elephants is archaic and inhumane, and it flies in the face of all we know about elephants' intelligence, intricate social fabric, sensitivity and self-awareness.

Please remember these guidelines are there to ensure that the focus remains on the plight of the elephants and is not digressed.

We now have 27,900 viewers to this site, how wonderful is that .  . thank you one and all.
May we all continue to promote good health and mental well being for all living creatures.

Sunder " Am I dreaming"

"I have never been here before, I haven't been beaten for ages, or hurt for a while either, what's up, this is so foreign to me, wonder what's going to happen next, it seems all too good to be true, all these faces I don't know, I sense a few unusually caring hearts, or is this just my dream come true, or am I sleeping , dreaming or imagining I am going to pastures new, no, surely this can't be true, is it, can someone reassure me I am not dreaming, or am I in heaven.

My days and nights, every minute, every second for years I have dreamt of this moment, wow, where am I going, I sense an air of warmth around me, like a barrier of protection, but invisible protection, who's doing this, how is it happening, maybe there are some people and animals out there that really care, are they sending me protection? I like it, but am frightened to like it' please, someone reassure me.

If I shut my eyes, and open them again, will I be back in that dingy shed, in darkness, rocking form side to side, dreading those footsteps and the beatings . . someone please reassure me.

If it's true, if I wake up somewhere new, I might get over excited and not know what to do, please forgive me if I do, I will settle, I just need time and the right key to help me, but I sense there are others to guide me, but no beatings, I am bruised and ache enough"

Thank you one and all.

Save Sunder the Elephant  For updates this is a wonderful facebook page dedicated to Sunder's safety - -

Sunder on his way to . . .

Apparently the above has brought tears to a few people, our founder sent a reply to one of them and we feel we should share it here for those who do not have access to facebook :

"Sorry Margaret, I didn't mean to make you cry, but poor Sunder has been crying for years, but the tears you shed now are not yours, they are his, his release of disbelief . . . many people will shed many a tear, but rest assured, they are ours and his of happiness and disbelief. As long as he is now treated on a 50/50 communication level and understanding then he will be happy just as we all will be. He deserves the rest of his life in a special place to make up for the turmoill and the aches and pains he has had right through to the core of his heart, bone and muscle. Bless him and all those who have helped him both physically, in an official and spiritual manner, without he would still be in his painfully dreaded shed. Without 50/50 many a living creature suffers, they all need help or /and all their carers need to learn how to communicate on a 50/50 level. And as a final little note for Sunder, we have given you so many scratches and here, is a specially big one for coping with your journey or your new chapter in your book of life".

Sunder has arrived . . . amazing . . . here is a link to a video of him sitting under a tree, under the sunshine with a lot of natural foliage and food around his trunk . another few weeks should see a change in him, perhaps his massive smile today will be superseded by an even larger smile from hip bone to hip bone.

Here is the link to our original post on Sunder, it pin points sore areas and some of his thoughts.

Anne the elephant destined for a life of solitude! HELP HER PLEASE

O dear, O dear, we had thought that Britain would have been more considerate towards an animal that naturally survives longer both physically and mentally when kept in a herd than when kept in solitude. . . this is a time when we feel embarrassed to be British . . .

We are going to analyse her shortly will give you our findings shortly. . . . please can you do as much as you can to help her as well.

Here is the Link to the facebook page of Animal Defenders International.

Here is the link to the article through which you can connect to other links on Anne.

Thank you.

Having now had a chance to analyse or read her this is what her initial thoughts are, if she can't be released to a more elephant friendly environment then she would like the following - we have posted this on to Animal Defenders International Facebook page  "If she has to be kept where she is then it would take about 20 months for her to accept another elephant who would have to be a. a female teenager and B, kept in a separate area but where she could see and touch it. We believe she would however accept a year old female (already tame) sheep . . .a white coloured sheep with a white face. It would have to be kept in a separate area to start with but again one where she could see and touch it. After about 8 weeks the gate could be opened for the sheep to get out but opened enough that she could run back in if necessary . . . But the sheep must be of the colour suggested . . .. Now then not knowing about her bedtime area - maybe someone could forward a photo of it to us . . .if she has a concrete 'cell to go in to at nighttime' Annie wants better paintings on her wall . . ." hope this helps. . . Poor Poor Annie what has she done to deserve this . . but if she is indeed destined for this life then at least give her what SHE would like and not what humans dictate . .  from Anne's heart  . . . thank you

It is felt that the ligament and muscle damage on her legs, may have been stirred by an imbalanced walk initially due to pain and discomfort to the near toe to the left of the red mark on the diagram pointing to the ground. Perhaps it had been poisoned at some stage. With this elephant not having the freedom to roam on absorbent ground, or the freedom to soak or bathe in a river or to stretch as an elephant in the wild would do then her ability to maintain quality muscle mass will have been greatly reduced, therefore any weakness gained from any injury would not heal as quickly nor would the previous muscle mass be able to be rebuilt. If the concrete she stands on has no protective barrier or rubber matting on it, no matter how smooth or rough the concrete, whether wet from being hosed or wet from being soiled or indeed dry it will continue to bruise, scar, wear away skin and if she is not able to roam freely on naturally absorbant and often healing materials, stretch, swim, bathe, roll in mud then any muscle mass or healing will take a much longer period of time therefore reducing any wound to returning to be 100% health. The more accidents or injuries this size of an animal has the less likely a chance it has of recovering to 100% health especially if there is a lack of natural movement available. The miles and the materials this size of an elephant would generally walk on when in the wild naturally triggers a speedier healing ability because of the faster blood flow to all areas - ailing areas, muscle mass as well as the most important the heart muscles. Access, as mentioned below, to water/rivers/lakes is as important to an elephant as it is for us to sit down - it takes the massive weight off their feet and has a soft landing, How many elephants in captivity have a soft landing? Instead their massive bones lie (if their muscles are fit enough to let them lie down in the first place) on a solid and often freezing cold concrete slab! Natural water, in many areas, is also known to have many natural healing properties.

As a separate note water is an extremely important substance for all large animals – Rhino's Hippo's
Elephants etc – why - because it releases the pressure of their own weight pressure where as on solid ground they have to carry their own weight 24/7. In fact it's as important as hydrotherapy is for large boned and obese humans. So, although most elephants in captivity have access to a water bath – it is not usually either large enough or indeed soft enough for them at the bottom. In the wild one the main reasons for bathing is to prepare them for their next elephant march/mission, instead when kept on a hard base we ask them to walk 24/7 on extremely uncomfortable ground.

Concrete also has additional issues

1 - It is permanently abrasive

2 – If they have to walk on it when it is wet from being hosed, it doesn't matter how smooth it is but the concrete dust will get in to every crevice and stay there, irritating any wound.

3- If they walk on it where it is soiled you don't only have the dust particles doing damage but the combination of urine, faeces and concrete has a lasting burning effect therefore corrodes the skin, - no matter how tough it is – proof of this – take a look at any builders hands.

Using our scale method Concrete reads as follows :

Dry Concrete = -1

Wet Concrete (from hosed water) = -6

Wet Concrete from urine = -10

Wet Concrete from faeces = -8

Mental State of Health

Tania is bored, lonely and sad. She picks up on certain sounds and pitches which comfort her. These in the main come from higher speaking humans – mostly females. Their soft voices are comforting to her and the way she shows this is by rubbing her trunk. This is a sign of her trying to comfort herself - one of the areas where other elephants would comfort her if she was in the wild or at least in a herd that she was accepted by.

She would like out more than she is allowed. If she can not be amongst her own sort then she would like to have sounds of nature (a must is the sound of running water) in the background and not always the sound of screaming or shouting children. Although in saying this she does seem to find the sound of happy children fun and wishes she could be part of some form of fun instead of just having her own company and the plain walls around her. She would like more stimulating things around her for example trees or branches hanging from the walls, and not just the same dumped on the ground with things hidden in them for her to find . . . this has become a monotonous habit of humans. Having her food put in different places, different heights etc would be not only good stimulation for her but it would stretch her muscles and ligaments in areas that do not get stretched at the moment.

She would like access to a bigger mud bath and she hates the grey walls . . . perhaps when she is out of her cell someone could paint some things on her wall. This would be good for two reasons . . . an elephant is not used to grey walls and if there is a chance that she is released in due course then to have blue sky, trees, bushes, birds and other animals on the walls would be good for her and adjust her to what could become a new life in due course. If there is a chance of someone painting things on her walls please ask us first, because if you paint the wrong things or animals with the wrong expression then it would upset her. We have painted and instructed paintings to be done for other large animals and it is amazing what a therapeutic result it has on the animals. Even many a Vet has said what an amazing idea . . .

She would also like something soft to rub against, perhaps something like brush matting or tightly woven carpet could be attached on to a frame or somehow attached to the walls somewhere – a large piece though. The right hand side of the large brown gate seems to be the most positive area . As well as that part of the wall she would like something similar put on some of the upright concrete poles. Concrete is not a comforting scratching/comforting post!

With her not having been used to being with another Ele for so long it will take a bit of adjustment on her part but after about 6/7 weeks of gentle introduction she would accept an ele friend. This is where perhaps a piece of carpet/Brush matting cut to the shape of an ele would help her. If there was an angled part of the ceiling anywhere then a long mirror could be put in so that she could, when wanted see another ele (albeit herself) wandering around – this would also allow her to become acclimatised to a moving elephant.

If someone was allowed to create a painting it/they would have to be painted in a particular way. With a few lying down as well.

On behalf of Tania, please can someone somewhere help her with some of the above, as an interim if nothing else. It wouldn't cost much. We are sure the carpets could be donated, just as someone, we are sure, would be happy to paint some life size paintings for her, totally free of charge, and if no one will, then we will come over and do it for her.

Suggestions

So now to what this wee soul could do with, freedom is the obvious choice, but we fear she will not get this straight away . . . so in the interim, if she could get some of the above as well as, which is more important than anything . . manipulation to redirect the negative energy as well as the negative foods taken out of her diet. As you may all be aware certain sugars have a negative effect on these type of health issues in certain humans and there is no difference between them and certain blood types of animals. The next question is - Is there anyone there that could give her any manipulation - we noticed the guy in the video footage managed to handle her a bit - - is he the type or firstly would the zoo allow any of this treatment, and if so would the guy or someone - preferably a woman though, be allowed to give her this treatment . . we would give guidance as to where this manipulation needs to be done . . . In the meantime we will send her positive energy, but you can not beat one to one treatment.

Tania we are behind you as are many people, don't give up your time will come, but in the meantime we are all trying hard to make your life more acceptable to and for you.

And another little Asian Elephant -

We are delighted to announce we have been given another little Asian elephant to look in to . .

This elephant also used to be in a circus - it's great to see her not tied to dreaded chains and being able to wander 'on grass' and not on concrete 24/7.

We, like most, would just like to see her filled out a bit more.

We will forward you an update in due course.
